Pre-theater

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

In the first few months following our opening in March 2010, we were thrilled with the reception we got from our neighbors, who quickly decided we were one of the best Hell’s Kitchen restaurants and bars. We also became tight with the hard-working, uber-talented professionals in New York’s theater and service industries, for whom we keep our kitchen open till 2:00 a.m. and offer one of New York’s only late night Happy Hours, and have now begun to offer a monthly midnight comedy hour as well.

This summer, we began to welcome savvy  tourists who are discovering that, a mere block west of the uninspiring theater district restaurants, there awaits a marvelous pre-theater meal that can be enjoyed in a less-rushed, more reasonably priced, and far classier place than their usual spot.

Most of the traditional  Times Square restaurants and Theater District restaurants in New York City are designed to bilk harried tourists by serving passable, expensive meals in assembly line fashion. In a marvelous article titled “Ten Things Not to Do in New York City,” Concierge.com wrote “we don’t understand why anyone bothers to eat there….The chains are exactly the same as the ones in the ‘burbs—just more expensive.” What does Concierge.com suggest as an alternative? That readers check out the many wonderful restaurants in Hell’s Kitchen!

At the Brickyard, we offer outstanding fare, cooked to perfection, served with a smile and in an unhurried manner. When we offer you a table for pre-theater dinner, we’re not worried about how long you’ll stay. With our ever-changing list of 24 craft beers, new wine list and fall menu, how could we possibly move you along?

Our total package makes us one of the the best bars or restaurants near Roseland, and one of the best restaurants near Terminal 5.

As we wrote recently, we are also one of the best restaurants near the August Wilson Theater, which hosts the Jersey Boys, and is also a short stroll down 52nd Street.  Just a block further away is Wicked, making us a great choice among restaurants near the Gershwin Theater.

The kinks of comedy night

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

“For a Funny Guy your pretty dam serious …!” “Comedy is a serious dam business Gavin” Oscar snapped back stirring the ice in his Stoli O tonic so hard the cubes were singing or in his case brain music. As we stood in our dinning room late one Tuesday evening (about 3ish) and Oscar maneuvered himself, his ideas, his libation, and our furniture around the room like an enthusiastic groom at first dance. The more he talked the more sense it made (thankfully my new best friend Mr. Crispin Cider was there to
Help me realize Oscar’s vision)

Service Industry Comedy Night

We arranged the first evening for Tuesday before Thanksgiving “A dry run, troubleshoot the technical’s, work out the unforseens” at 12pm the doors opened to the first revelers and then remained opened thereafter as hordes of overworked Service workers in overly starched black & whites streamed into the bar in an orderly fashion and proceeded to order refreshments both for themselves and everybody who was present and everybody yet to come. Thankfully two of Brickyards finest were still present and ready to lend a hand One from the Midwest (Chicago USA) the other from the Far East (Tyrone IRL).

The Show itself was like the bar, a huge hit with all attended, Oscar and his guest entertainers did not disappoint they held the crowd in the palm of their hands, delivery and punch line followed in uproarious rhythm, The Crowd shouted for more, and Indeed their will be more as the Brickyard Gastro Pub becomes the new home of late night comedy in new York city. Watch this Internet Broadcasting System (IBS) for new dates and more info, and until then you have our permission to day dream about Craft Ales & Beers

The Frames at Terminal 5

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

We’ve been looking forward to tonight for a long time. We love all the customers who come into the Brickyard – from the Hell’s Kitchen locals who drop in several times a week, to the local office workers we see for an occasional lunch or Happy Hour, to the Broadway actors that fill our place late at night after the curtain drops, or on Monday nights, their only night off.

Lately we’ve started to attract a more itinerant crowd. On NYC Marathon Sunday, we were crammed from noon to midnight with people wearing medals around their necks, and their proud supporters. And lately we become known as the best of all restaurants near Terminal 5.

Terminal 5, one of several venues in the “Bowery Presents” family of New York City concert halls, is hitting the big time. It featured shows by Kate Nash and Mumford & Sons this week, and next week, Bob Dylan will be at Terminal 5 for three nights. The meteoric rise of Terminal 5 coincides with our emergence as the best place for to eat in Hell’s Kitchen, and now we’re becoming now as the best place to eat near Terminal 5.

While we love all the crowds who come to eat at the Brickyard before a show at Terminal 5, we expect to particularly enjoy the crowd for The Frames. The band is led by Glen Hansard, who is best known for his role in – and Oscar for – the movie Once, and its runaway hit Falling Slowly. But The Frames have been around for 20 years.  As of the time we write this post, tickets for the Frames at Terminal 5 are still available through Ticketmaster, though after the amazing appearance by The Frames on Jimmy Fallon last night, the few remaining tickets may go quickly.

We’ll be offering both our standard Happy Hour specials before each show and our only-one-in-Hell’s Kitchen late night Happy Hour after The Frames at Terminal 5.

How good is our food and beer? Well, check our reviews on Open Table, where 2/3 of our customers rate us 4 or 5 stars overall. Darn good ratings considering the tough New York City audience! Our beer list also speaks well of us – you can’t go wrong with a place that keeps this sort of company, from Ommegang to SixPoint to Lagunitas to Blue Point.

And perhaps best of all is that, located at 52nd and 9th, we’re right in between the subway stop for Terminal 5 and the concert hall itself. It’s about a 12 minute walk from the stop at 50th & 8th to Terminal 5 at 56th & 11th; we’re about 5 minutes from the former and 7 minutes from the later.

Drop by and see why we are quickly becoming known as the best restaurant and bar near Terminal 5.

Celebrating Three Nights of Bob Dylan at Terminal 5

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

In early October, the legendary Hall of Famer Bob Dylan announced he’d play three nights at Terminal 5. The shows sold out in minutes, and the asking price for Bob Dylan tickets on StubHub starts at $114 per ticket and climbs over $200.

Once you have tickets in hand and show time nears, many critical questions arise. The Village Voice asks three: which one will be the totally incomprehensible show? Which will be the all-Christian-rock evening? And which will be the one added to the long rolls of immortal, improbably great late career Dylan marathons?

Since none of these can be answered until show time, we’ll consider two other questions for which there is a single clear answer. Before the show, you’ll ask “What’s the best place to eat near Terminal 5?” And, after the show, you’ll ask “what’s the best bar near Terminal 5?”

The clear answer to both questions is “Brickyard Gastropub is the best place near Terminal 5.” Now you not want to just take our word for it; check our reviews at Open Table, where 2/3 of our customers rate us 4 or 5 stars overall. Darn good ratings considering the tough New York City audience! Our beer list also speaks well of us – you can’t go wrong with a place that keeps this sort of company, from Ommegang to SixPoint to Lagunitas to Blue Point.

We’ll be offering both our standard Happy Hour specials before each show and our only-one-in-Hell’s Kitchen late night Happy Hour after each show.

Of course, as the unofficial party headquarters for Terminal 5, we’ll be playing the music of the headline act before and after the show.

So unless you want to be stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues – Again – come to the Brickyard before and after Bob Dylan at Terminal 5.

The best bar and restaurant near Terminal 5

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

One of the best concert venues in Manhattan is Terminal 5.  Never will this be more apparent than in the next 30 days, as Terminal 5 will be packed nearly every night, with this calendar of upcoming events. Kate Nash, The Frames, Bob Dylan and State Radio will all keep Terminal 5 rocking right through Thanksgiving.

If you read reviews of Terminal 5 on Yelp, you’ll see they are a mixed bag. As with all reviews, people who are the most motivated to actually write a review are those who are unhappy. But clearly there are tons of fans who love Terminal 5. One consistent complaint in these reviews? It’s so far from the subway. At 56th and 11th, you have a choice of getting off the subway at 50th & 8th or 59th & 8th.

May we make a strong suggestion?  Get off the subway at 50th and 8th and walk 3 minutes to the best bar near Terminal 5, The Brickyard Gastropub, at 52nd and Ninth Avenue. We offer our new fall menu, a bar menu, the best beer list in New York City, and a Happy Hour both before and after each show at Terminal 5. Once you’ve partaken of our craft beers, such as Ommegang, BluePoint and SixPoint, you’ll have just a 5 minute walk over to Terminal 5 for the show.

Brickyard Gastropub is rapidly becoming the party headquarters for Terminal 5. Join us this month and see why.

Wild Game at the Brickyard ??

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

The launch of Nat Geo’s challenge Wild Life trivia game at the Brickyard was an entertaining evening only muted at times as teammates sweated and squabbled over the multiple choice answers. Fortunately all could agree that the multiple choice platters provided by the Brickyard were a real bonus round. The Kobe beef Sliders and Crab Cakes didn’t survive the1st round by the time the picture round was over the chicken satay had also being eliminated,
We had 25 people for the debut and launch of Natgeo Challenge! Wild Life where 4 teams pitted their nature and wild life knowledge against one another. The game itself is an interactive trivia quiz on all things nature and their eco systems , offering amazing wildlife images and videos in multiple choice style questions a great tool for teachers and a must buy for families , bought to you by D3 Publishing www.d3publisher.us and available now on PS3.

Catching the righteous red rye

Friday, November 5th, 2010

So what do brew master’s drink I asked my union consultant? (U.C.) (Almost dreading the answer, fearing some overly sweet not sweetened concoction from a  machine hid between the noble hops suite and the tea ladies kitchen) My patient and knowledgeable U.C. began to tell me about this marvelous beverage called Righteous Rye crafted by the lads of Van Dyke St.

It pours a deep hazy amber, a hue that has become a sixpoint signature. The head pours a lazy two fingers that lace to the glass sides. The first sup is a battle between hops and malt of this you will take note, and when you have decided on which it will be quickly tempered with a subtle sweetness that finishes to the back end. I am left with the humble impression that no accountants were part of this brewing process.

Why The Brickyard is the Best Place to Go After the NYC Marathon

Monday, November 1st, 2010

What are you supposed to do after you run the NYC Marathon? The first time I ran, I  focused on whether I’d finish, not on a post-race celebration. Later that evening, I felt much better after the race than I expected, and wished we had gone for a celebratory dinner.

The second time, I met my family and we walked down to  Columbus Circle. We soon realized there weren’t many group-friendly restaurants in the vicinity, and there were long waits at mediocre restaurants. We finally found a decent one that had a table for us – down a long flight of stairs that was excruciating for my sore legs to descend.

The third time, I ran with a group of relatives, and we reserved a room in a nearby, ground-level restaurant, and had a nice feast, a fitting way to celebrate our collective feat.

So if you’re running the New York City Marathon this year, or even watching it, book a table, or just come by The Brickyard Gastropub for your post-marathon lunch, dinner or celebration.

The running experts at Active.com recommend a post-race routine that includes a 15-minute walk, followed by a meal high in carbohydrates, protein and sodium.

Well, we’re at 52nd St. and Ninth Avenue, a little more than a kilometer from the finish line and almost exactly a 15 minute walk. Our new fall menu offers protein in abundance, from Kobe Beef or Chipotle Pulled Pork sliders to Steamed Cockles to Porterhouse Lamb Chops. Our Sweet Potato Poutine will provide all the carbs, potassium and sodium you need. Once you’ve properly re-hydrated, you can get additional carbs, and some pain relief, from our world-class list of 24 craft beers on tap.

And best of all, we have exactly one stair in the entire place.

So have a great run, and afterwards, don’t just get on the train and go home, or wonder around aimlessly hoping to find a place to eat. Call 212-767-0077 now or email use at Info@BrickyardNYC.com to reserve a table, or just make a warm-down beeline to the Brickyard Gastropub for your post marathon celebration this year.
