Family Friendly Restaurants Near Sister Act, at the Broadway Theater

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Sister Act is the smash hit of 2011, playing at The Broadway Theater.

If you’re reading this, you probably have tickets already, and are now looking for a restaurant near the The Broadway Theater for brunch, lunch or dinner; perhaps a family friendly restaurant.

As the musical’s Mother Superior would warn you, don’t succumb to the temptation to take the easy way out.

You can turn right, towards the familiar environs of Broadway – and as we warned you in a previous post, the restaurants near Times Square tend to be uninspiring franchises of national chains, with no character or local color. Or you can turn left – and walk a mere three minutes to the unfamiliar environs of Ninth Avenue – and find Brickyard Gastropub.

Turn right, and you find Applebees and TGI Friday, and continue your habit of waiting in line to pay too much money for bad food.

Turn left, and you find Brickyard, and start a new habit of eating gourmet food – our new fall menu includes Free Range Chicken Pot Pie, Pan Seared Salmon, and Frenched Pork Chop, and on our lunch menu, we can hardly make the Brickyard Club and Vegetable Baguettes fast enough – for a reasonable price, in an unrushed atmosphere. And yes, we have a kid’s menu that the little ones love, and we are a family friendly restaurant.

Soon, you’ll share the view of those who wrote all the reviews of Brickyard Gastropub on Open Table, 2/3 of which rate us 4 or 5 stars, using phrases such as “great little hidden gem” and “a great start to your NYC weekend.”

Visit the Brickyard with a ticket stub from that day’s show of Sister Act, and we’ll give you 10% off your check. The discount applies for pretheater dinner, too.

Call us today at 212-767-0077 to reserve your table.

Why Brickyard is One of the Best Bars in NYC for March Madness

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

We love the advent of spring for many reasons. But as a sports bar,  the number one reason is the distinct air of excitement that descends during the final weeks of March Madness.  What we don’t love is trudging from sports bar to sports bar, only to find our favorite game on a TV buried in the corner with the sound off. This doesn’t happen at the Brickyard, where sports are always front and center. We are one of the best bars to watch the NCAA Tournament in New York.

The Games

We’ll be showing every game throughout the tournament. For the Sweet Sixteen this week, two games will be played at a time in two time slots on Thursday and Friday; all games will be shown on multiple televisions.

The Beer

During all games, we’re offering $5 pints on selected craft beers. Here’s our Beer List, featuring local brews from Ommegang, Sixpoint, Blue Point, several of your favorite imports, and many more. Can’t pick just one? Try our 4-beer flights. Look for other specials as well.

The Wings

Ours are anything but ordinary: very meaty, perfectly crispy with just enough spice and served with creamy New York State Bleu Cheese dressing. Take your pick of Teriyaki, Thai Chili,  Bourbon glazed or Buffalo wings, offered at half price ($6 for a dozen) during all games for fans watching the games.

Groups

Got a big group of friends ready to cheer on your alma mater? Have your college New York City watch party at Brickyard. Get in touch with us to reserve our back room or individual tables. You can also make smaller reservations on Open Table, and let us know what you liked about your visit. We’d love to hear from you!

Farewell Party for The Pogues at Brickyard Gastropub

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

The Irish are invading Hell’s Kitchen this week, as The Pogues play three shows at Terminal 5 on March 15, 16 and 17. The band has announced that this is “A Parting Shot” – they have grown weary of life on the road, and won’t be touring, aside from an occasional festival, any time soon. So we’re throwing them a farewell party.

If you read reviews of Terminal 5 on Yelp, you’ll see many complaints that it sells expensive, bad beer. Another problem is that it is far from the subway.

So now you’re wondering about the best bars in Hell’s Kitchen – ideally one halfway between the Terminal 5 and the subway closest to Terminal 5.

The Dropkick Murphys at Roseland This Week

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

The Dropkick Murphys come to the legendary Roseland Ballroom for two shows, tonight and tomorrow, March 10 and 11. They will be debuting their new album, “Going Out in Style,” which is #6 on the Billboard charts this week. The album follows the travails of the fictional Cornelius Larkin.

Self-described as “a rocking & rolling, raging, green-clover machine,” the band has become world famous for its live shows, particularly those held in the week before St. Patrick’s Day.

Now that you have your tickets, your next question must be, “where can I get a great pint of Guinness near Roseland?” The only answer to that question is “at Brickyard Gastropub;” we’re just a three-minute walk away from Roseland, at 785 Ninth Avenue, just north of 52nd St.

We’re owned by two natives of Ireland, who take their beer, and particularly their Guinness, seriously. A look at our list of 24 craft beers on tap proves how serious we are about our beer; the average rating of nearly four stars on Open Table, and the solid comments about our beer, is third-party proof that Brickyard Gastropub is one of the best Irish bars near Roseland. We also have an outstanding dinner menu and a terrific bar menu, making us also one of the best restaurants near Roseland.

Call us at 212-767-0077 to reserve a table.

The Best Irish Bar for fans of Flogging Molly, The Pogues and The Dropkick Murphys

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

The Irish are invading Hell’s Kitchen over the next several weeks. First, Flogging Molly comes to Terminal 5 on March 2 as part of its “Green 17 Tour,” bringing with it what Indie Online calls “the full-on Molly experience of Celtic rock, razor-wire punk and rousing lyrics both triumphant and defiant.”

Next, The Dropkick Murphys hit Roseland for two shows on March 10 and 11, and finally The Pogues will play three shows at Terminal 5 on March 15, 16 and 17,

If you read reviews of Terminal 5 on Yelp, you’ll see they are a mixed bag, including complaints about expensive, bad beer.

Once you get off the subway at 50th and 8th and walk 3 minutes to one of the best bars near Terminal 5, The Brickyard Gastropub, at 52nd and Ninth Avenue. We offer our new fall menu, a bar menu, the best beer list in New York City, and a Happy Hour both before and after each show at Terminal 5. Once you’ve partaken of our craft beers, such as Ommegang, BluePoint and SixPoint, you’ll have just a 5 minute walk over to Terminal 5 for the show.

We’re even closer to Roseland, which is a three minute walk from our front door. Avoid the tired far in the Theater District and come to one of the best restaurants near Roseland.
