Celebrating PJ Harvey at Terminal 5

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Fresh off her stunning performance at the Coachella music festival, PJ Harvey is bringing her powerful voice and eclectic style to Terminal 5 for two shows this week, on April 19 and 20. Spin called Let England Shake, Harvey’s latest album, “politically-oriented,” resulting in a “fraught atmosphere” at her shows.

Harvey, a native Brit, wrote the lyrics to this album before composing the music, according to NPR. From start to finish, the album took about one year and a half of work; it’s filled with “tinny” autoharp and has an otherworldy feel, NPR attests.

Harvey’s career has twisted and turned since the 1980s, when she started out as a background singer and guitarist for Automatic Dlamini, and to see her on stage now is to witness an artist who’s truly come into her own.

Also performing this week at Terminal 5 is Cake, who spent much of February and March touring in California, and trek to NYC for a show on April 21. My Chemical Romance play two Terminal 5 shows this week, on April 22 and 23 –incidentally, the band has been posting heartfelt fan-written blog entries on its website.

If you’ve been to Terminal 5, you know what to expect: despite hosting great bands, the venue serves expensive, poor quality beer. The reviews of Terminal 5 on Yelp confirm as much.

The good news is that there’s a much better place to have a beer near Terminal 5. Once you get off the subway at 50th and 8th, walk 3 minutes to one of the best bars near Terminal 5, The Brickyard Gastropub, at 52nd and Ninth Avenue. In addition to our delicious, mostly organic dinner menu, we offer a bar menu until 2 a.m., one of the best beer lists in NYC, and a Happy Hour both before and after each show at Terminal 5. Once you’ve enjoyed our crisp, refreshing craft beers, such as Ommegang, BluePoint and SixPoint, you’ll have just a 5 minute walk over to Terminal 5 for the show.

Brickyard Gastropub is rapidly becoming one of the best Irish bars near Terminal 5. Join us this month and see why.

Frittatas and French Toast Make For One of the Best NYC Brunch Menus

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Picture it now. You’ve awoken after a great night on the town in New York — a fabulous dinner, Broadway show and post-dinner drinks before crashing into bed. The last thing you want, the morning after a memorable evening, is  a lackluster breakfast and crowds of hungover people in Times Square. Skip that scene. The Brickyard has you covered.

Ours is one of the best NYC brunch menus.  In addition to offering a tempting selection of fresh organic salads and satisfying sandwiches, our 9th avenue brunch is fully stocked with delicious egg dishes, including omelets and frittatas. Rounding out the brunch menu are thick-cut French toast, and a heavy-duty strip steak. If you’re in need of a little hair of the dog, you’re in luck. We’ve taken the liberty of pairing each dish on our brunch menu with a craft beer from one of the best beer lists in NYC.

Brunch menus are a dime a dozen in NYC, so how do you know ours is worth tucking into? Our selection of frittatas is reason enough — starting with organic eggs, we add fresh vegetables, like spinach and artichokes, and complement meats, like applewood smoked bacon, with sweet roasted shallots. And our French Toast? It’s earned raves for being one of the best 9th Avenue brunch dishes available; thick slices are finished with rich, caramelized apples and the subtle sweetness of pure, organic maple syrup from Vermont.

Customized omelets are another go-to Brickyard brunch menu item — take your pick of three fillings, including local vegetables, organic cheeses and meats. For those craving something more substantial, we offer a New York Strip Steak and Eggs, a 6oz strip cooked to your preference, served with eggs however you like them, and topped with creamy béarnaise sauce and our addictive potato hash.

So enjoy your night out, knowing exactly where to go when you wake up. See you soon.

One of the Best Restaurants for Catch Me If You Can at the Neil Simon Theater

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Catch Me If You Can is a new musical playing in previews at The Neil Simon Theater, at 250 W. 52nd St. It opens on April 10. Playbill offers this synopsis and photo gallery from the previews.

Once you buy tickets, you need to find restaurants near the Neil Simon Theater for a pre-theater lunch, dinner, or brunch, or perhaps a post-show meal or drink.

You can turn right, towards the familiar lights on Broadway – and find crowded franchise chains, with no local color. bland food, high prices and rushed service.

Or you can turn left – and walk a mere three minutes to Ninth Avenue – and find splendid food and the perfect ambiance at Brickyard Gastropub.

Our  new fall menu includes Free Range Chicken Pot Pie, Pan Seared Salmon, and Frenched Pork Chop, and on our lunch menu, we can hardly make the Brickyard Club, Smothered Chicken Sandwich and Vegetable Baguettes fast enough. We offer it all at  a reasonable price, in an unrushed atmosphere. And yes, we have a kid’s menu the little ones love, and we are a family friendly restaurant.

Soon, you’ll share the view of those who wrote all the reviews of Brickyard Gastropub on Open Table, 2/3 of which rate us 4 or 5 stars, using phrases such as “great little hidden gem” and “a great start to your NYC weekend.”

Visit the Brickyard with a ticket stub from that day’s show of Catch Me If You Can, and we’ll give you 10% off your check.

Call us today at 212-767-0077 or email us at info@BrickyardNYC.com to reserve your table.
