Come Visit Us After the Corporate Challenge or Other Races in Central Park

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

On June 15 and June 16, the 2011 JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge will be contested in Central Park.

While a few runners take the event seriously, most of the runners are once-a-year racers who participate more out of camaraderie than competitive zeal. And all runners, competitive or casual, love to celebrate the completion of the event by sharing a post-race drink or bite to eat with their colleagues.

If you’re running in the Corporate Challenge or any other race in Central Park, drop by The Brickyard Gastropub for your post-race celebration.

The running experts at Active.com recommend a post-race routine that includes a 15-minute walk, followed by a meal high in carbohydrates, protein and sodium.

Well, we’re at 52nd St. and Ninth Avenue,  almost exactly a 15 minute walk from the various NYRR finish lines in Central Park. Our menu offers protein in abundance, from Kobe Beef, Lamb or Bison sliders to Prince Edward Island Mussels to Marinated Pork Loin. A basket of Sweet Potato fries will provide all the carbs, potassium and sodium you need. Once you’ve properly re-hydrated, you can get additional carbs, and some pain relief, from our world-class list of 24 craft beers on tap.

And best of all, we have exactly one stair in the entire place.

Come to Brickyard Gastropub after Broadway Dance Center Camps and Classes

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

New York may be a city of world class performers, but it’s also filled with young upstarts working hard to get a break. The Broadway Dance Center has been training aspiring dancers and employing amazing choreographers and teachers, like Bob Fosse, for more than 26 years. The Broadway Dance Center is still going strong, particularly in the summertime when talented students from around the world descend on NYC for classes, workshops and camps.

We at The Brickyard are impressed with persistence and determination, so we’re excited to be located mere blocks from the Broadway Dance Center.  We’re one of the very best family-friendly restaurants near The Hampton Inn Times Square North and other hotels that will be hosting talented dancers and their dedicated families all summer long.

After an easy walk from the Broadway Dance Center or one of its recommended hotels, you’ll arrive at our family-friendly Theater District restaurant. We serve our delicious upscale yet affordable pub fare in an atmosphere that’s casual and relaxed. Our kids’ menu features meals costing $5 or $6.

Dancers can fill up on delicious healthy salads from our dinner meu, like our Tuscan Kale Caesar Salad with house-made croutons; or, for the hungriest performers, the Brickyard Salad, with mixed greens, goat cheese, applewood smoked bacon, avocado, sliced turkey, tear drop tomatoes, red onion and a delectable house-made roasted tomato vinaigrette.

Mom and dad will appreciate our sophisticated entrees, like Rack of Lamb with white truffle mashed potato and sauteed spinach, paired with a crisp, cold Palm Ale; or a Seared Wild Striped Bass with seasonal veggies like sunchokes, morels, sauteed arugula and pomegranate vinaigrette served with refreshing pint of Duvel Green. We use local and organic ingredients whenever possible, and we pair each of our dishes with a craft beer from one of the best beer menus in NYC.

How often do you see a menu like that in kid-friendly restaurants near Times Square?

You can also catch live sports action on one of our nine flat-screen TVs.

We hope to see plenty of Broadway Dance Company performers and their families this summer.

How to Bet the Belmont Stakes in New York City:

New York City OTB closed its doors last year. The only way to legally bet on the Belmont Stakes in New York City is to take the A train to Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens or take the Long Island Railroad to Belmont Park, or to open up an account online with one of the services we list below.

The four online wagering providers listed below are the most reliable sites that permit same-day funding of a new account. There are other legitimate providers, such as Autotote and ones associated with racetracks, but most do not allow same-day funding of a new account. Be wary of any other operator; they may be located offshore and may not be legally permitted to accept wagers from U.S. residents.

NYRA Rewards is operated by The New York Racing Association, which operates New York’s three major thoroughbred racing tracks; it offers free, instant accounts to residents of New York and Connecticut.

InterBets is operated by Catskills OTB and operates the nearest OTB branch to the Brickyard – this is important if you want to go collect your winnings in person! Even better, Interbets is offering Brickyard customers $77 in free bets after they deposit $77 or more. Just use code BRICKYARD77 on your online application.

TwinSpires is managed by Churchill Downs Incorporated and offers wagering to all U.S. residents.
TVG is a horse racing television network that allows people in 15 states to bet online, by phone and television remote.

Heat Hotter’n Hades Hardly Handles Hofbrau Summer

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

The dog days of summer are upon us. Furnace-grade  heat in the subways,  tropical forest humidity  from the office to your sandwich shop,  and heat from your significant other because you promised last year to buy a new A/C.

There is one weapon that can break the heat spell. Fortunately, it is much easier to haul up a 5-story walk up than a Fedder’s A/C.

What is this magic weapon? Hofbräu Münchner Sommer  5.1%ABV

Hofbrau Summer, as it’s known to the sweltering masses, is a seasonal offering from the lads in Munich (gotta keep themselves occupied until Oktoberfest I suppose)

It pours a cloudy golden color, with a firm, off-white head that leaves lacing. The flavor has pale malts, fruits and some hopes are noticed. On the finish there is a decent bitterness and carbonation which is perfect to cut the thirst and nerves after a long summer’s day in the city.

This weekend, we’re giving away Steiners and Mugs from Hofbrau with each purchase of a Hofbrau Summer. All summer long, we’re one of the only bars in Manhattan to offer it, so we’re selling it by the pint, 48 oz. Steiner, or in one of our take-home 64 oz growlers.

Best Post-Race Brunch for New York Mini 10k Runners & Spectators

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

The NYRR New York Mini 10K on June 11, 2011 brings the world’s best women runners to New York City. To showcase the collection of extraordinary talent, it is one of the few races in NYC that is run partly outside, and partly inside, Central Park.

Brickyard Gastropub brings New York City’s best brunch to the best women runners. We’re at 52nd St and 9th Avenue – about a kilometer from the finish line. We know that after 10 brutal kilometers, you’re famished, and you want a brunch that works as hard as you do. We were delighted to host the best after-party for the NYC Marathon last fall, and we look forward to greeting many of you back for brunch after the New York Mini 10K.

After a PR effort, you don’t want to wait on one of the never-ending lines you see at some of the famous brunch spots in NYC. Not only does Brickyard offer you a reserved table, we’ll also greet runners, and their fans, with a complimentary brunch cocktail. Just show us a race number, or a digital photo of a runner wearing her race number, to claim your free drink with brunch. Choose from one of our signature brunch cocktails or from the best craft beer menu in NYC.

Brunch menus are a common sight in NYC, so how do you know ours is worth the trip? Who else offers a choice between a Tuscan Kale Caesar Salad, a Mandarin Spinach Salad, or the Brickyard Salad that includes goat cheese, applewood smoked bacon and teardrop tomatoes? Our selection of frittatas starts with organic eggs,  adds fresh vegetables, such as spinach and artichokes, and complements it all with  lump crab meat or applewood smoked bacon, and sweet roasted shallots.

And our French Toast? It has earned raves for its thick slices finished with rich, caramelized peaches and the subtle sweetness of tequila maple syrup, served with country ham.

Customized omelets are another go-to Brickyard brunch menu item — take your pick of three fillings, including local vegetables, organic cheeses and meats. For those craving something more substantial, we offer a New York Strip Steak and Eggs, a 6oz strip cooked to your preference, served with eggs however you like them, and topped with creamy béarnaise sauce and our addictive potato hash.

So have a great run, and afterwards, don’t wonder around aimlessly hoping to find a place to eat. Call 212-767-0077 now or email us at Info@BrickyardNYC.com to reserve a table, or just make a warm-down beeline to the Brickyard Gastropub for your post-New York Mini 10K brunch this year.

Of course, we’ll also welcome you for lunch, dinner, drinks or Sunday brunch as well.
