Neighborhood Tour: Chicago City Limits at Broadway Comedy Club

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Know what NYC’s longest-running show is? You might be surprised to hear that it’s Chicago City Limits . CCL is a family-friendly Improv comedy act at the Broadway Comedy Club on West 53rd Street, in the heart of the Theater District.

Currently performing “Chicago City Limits on Ice,” its 38th revue since relocating to NYC from Chicago in 1980, CCL is a critic and fan favorite.

The show is a mix of sketch comedy and “audience-inspired improvisation” – think “Whose Line is it Anyway?” making every show unique, fun, and current. You’ll get to interact with the comedians, but, not to worry, the interaction is deliberately all positive and in good fun!

Popular with New Yorkers and tourists alike, we think one Yelp! reviewer said it best: “INCREDIBLE show! The cast was one of the best I have seen performing the difficult art form of Improv. These shows are not only hilarious but they are great for all ages and are reasonably priced for a show in NYC! The theater has a great energy and feel to it”

Shows are every night of the week – when “Chicago City Limits on Ice” isn’t on, “Best of Broadway Standup” is running. Most shows start around 8 or 9, and admission is $15 with a 2-drink minimum. (Hey, they know how to keep people laughing!)

Where to eat after Chicago City Limits? Keep the good times rolling at Brickyard Gastropub. A 3-minute walk around the corner, our dinner menu ranges from Soba Noodles with Grilled Chicken to Tagliatelle Pasta with Vegetables. Or, stick to the bar menu with a trio of Kobe Beef Sliders or Glazed Honey BBQ Wings.

Whatever your taste, our Gastropub has something classic and delicious for you! Of course, after that two-drink minimum, you’ll probably be ready for one of our craft beers or even an Espresso Martini.  Looking for a family friendly restaurant near Chicago City Limits? Check. Our kids’ menu offers the usual suspects, for about $8 per meal.

It’s easy to see why Brickyard is one of the best restaurants for dining after a Chicago City Limits show. Great comedy, great beer, great food, great martinis – this is a guaranteed great NYC night.

A Reasonably Priced Meal Before Zarkana at Radio City Music Hall

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Dinner and a show. It’s the ultimate NYC evening night out, right? Of course…but the whole “dinner near the show” is where you can run into problems. If you’ve ever tried to wing it and eat in the Times Square area, you know what we’re talking about. Generally, you’ll either pay through the nose or, even worse, pay through the nose for a chain restaurant (have you ever noticed how all of the commercials say “prices may vary in Times Square and Hawaii” – it’s no joke!)

Cirque de Soleil’s newest show, Zarkana is drawing large appreciative crowds to New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall  through October 6. The story follows Zark, a magician on a quest to find his lost powers. He finds himself plunged into a world inhabited by surreal and mesmerizing creatures.

The show features the usual mind-numbing acrobatics for which Cirque de Soleil has become world renowned. The New York Times’ Charles Sherwood wrote in his review  of Zarkana, “I’ll admit I’m a sucker for quite a few of the aah-inspiring feats performed by the company’s roster of 75 acrobats and performers of various nationalities. The young woman engaging in scary aerial feats on a moving balance beam held by two men was pretty staggering. The crack trapeze team conjured memories of big-top delights of my youth. The contortions performed by Anatoliy Zalevskiy, twisting himself into rubbery forms while standing on one hand, were amazing.”

Click here to get tickets to Zarkana from the official website, and make sure to enter the promotion code 20nyc to save 20% on your tickets.

Now that you’ve found a show to see, and saved money to boot, what are the best reasonably priced restaurants near Radio City Music Hall?

Applebee’s has its place, and $200 dinners have their place, but this isn’t it. Come see us at Brickyard before or after Zarkana. We’re a leisurely 8 minute  walk from Radio City, and, whether you’re bringing the family or a date, we’ve got something for you. And we’ll offer you 1o% of your check with today’s ticket stub for Zarkana. We saved you money on your tickets and now on your meal – don’t you love us?

Say goodbye to eating a lousy $25 burger and drinking a flat Coors Light while your kids go to town on $20 kids meals – and no more paying $200 to impress your date with a great wine and a good meal.

Whether it’s a Bison Burger, sweet potato fries and a pint of Hofbrau Summer, a grilled French Cut Pork Chop and a glass of white wine, or an $8 kids meal of a cheeseburger, fries and Coke for the young ones, our $10 lunch special on Wednesday, or our brunch on Saturday and Sunday, we have something for every taste on our menus. We’re kid-friendly, and we’re the most reasonably priced restaurant near Radio City, so it won’t cost you an arm or a leg, or 60 minutes of waiting time, like you might experience in Times Square.

After you let us fill you up, just take an easy three avenue walk to Radio City and enjoy Zarkana!

The Premier Midtown Bar for Premiership League Football

Monday, August 15th, 2011

In the 18 months we’ve been open, Brickyard Gastropub has quickly become known as the best place in midtown NYC to watch soccer and other European sports. The large boisterous crowds we drew for the Women’s World Cup were covered in segments on NBC Nightly News and Tokyo TV.

We also had large, enthusiastic crowds for the Heineken Cup Rugby Final and the Barcelona vs. Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League Final.

This fall, we’re going all out to become the best place in Hell’s Kitchen or anywhere in midtown to watch the Barclays Premier League matches. We’ll be opening at 10:00 am every Saturday and Sunday to show all of the matches starting at that time or later. Once we develop what we know will be a loyal and enthusiastic customer base for Premier League, we’ll open for the 7:30 matches if the demand warrants.

We will also show all matches during the week. If ever you walk into Brickyard and find your team’s game is not being shown on at least one of our TVs, let us know and we will quickly remedy that.

We also welcome groups of fans for a particular club who want to make Brickyard the headquarters for fans of their club. Please contact Pat or Gavin at 212-767-0077 to discuss.

So whether you support Bolton, Manchester United, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Norwich City, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Newcastle, Stoke City, Everton, Man City, QPR, WBA, Blackburn, Tottenham or Swan City, wear your finest club jersey and come cheer your team on at Brickyard Gastropub.

Watch the US Open at Brickyard Gastropub

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

For many New Yorkers, the last week of the summer means getting out of town. For many others, it is the best time to enjoy NYC in an unhurried and uncluttered manner, and to fully engage with the exciting spectacle that is the US Open Tennis Tournament, which this year runs from August 29 to September 12.

Tickets are still available for many of the dates, and we encourage you to get some today and watch world-class tennis in your own backyard.

For the days you’re not out in Flushing Meadows, come to Brickyard Gastropub and pretend that you are. Grab your courtside seat, as we’ll be showing all of the matches on many of our 50-inch HD TVs, and we’re expecting a pretty decent crowd for them. We’ll also be serving our signature “US Open” cocktails,  a fine mix of vodka, raspberry liquor and lemonade, as well as champagne and strawberries, each for just $5 per drink.

Call 212-767-0077 for reservations, or book them here on Open Table. We look forward to greeting you!

Brickyard Welcomes Back Oregon Ducks Fans for the Kickoff Game vs. LSU

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Last January, we enjoyed one of our best evenings ever when we hosted a large horde of Oregon Ducks fans to watch the BCS Championship Game against Auburn. While the final result was disappointing, it was a tight battle until well past midnight and not decided until the final minute.

Oregon, ranked #3 in most pre-season polls, sets out to improve upon last year’s stellar season as it opens the 2011 season on September 3 against perhaps its toughest opponent all year, the 4th ranked Tigers of LSU.

Because we had such a spectacular evening with Oregon Ducks fans in January, once again we’ve decided to figuratively paint The Brickyard Green & Yellow for the evening and invite a giant contingent of Ducks fans to watch the game against LSU.

Every single seat at the Brickyard has a clear view of at least 5 televisions, and on September 3, most of them will be tuned to the Oregon-LSU game, and a large group of Oregon Ducks fans will be cheering every play that goes their way.

And yes, there will also be quite a few renditions of the “Mighty Oregon” fight song, and we’ll hoist our Oregon Ducks banner.

We’ll be offering specials on select craft beers. Select pints will be $5. We’ll also be offering half-priced wings during the game.

The only thing missing will be the Duck and the Oregon cheerleaders, but we’ll see plenty of them on screen.

Call us now at 212-767-0077 or email us at Info@BrickyardNYC.com to reserve a table.

We know for Oregon fans eager to pick up where we left off, the few weeks till the game seems like forever; to tide you over, enjoy this video of all 80 touchdowns the Oregon Ducks scored last season.

Neighborhood Tour: The Ed Sullivan Theater

Friday, August 5th, 2011

One of the top tourist venues in New York City is the famous Ed Sullivan Theater. It was built by a son of Oscar Hammerstein, and opened  in 1927, with a production of The Golden Dawn; one of the actors was Archie Leach, who later changed his stage name to Cary Grant.

In 1936, CBS leased the building, which it would occupy for 45 years. The most famous era for the building came when it hosted The Ed Sullivan Show, including one of the most famous television segments ever, this appearance by The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Aside from the most famous occupant for whom the theater is now named, the theater hosted The Merv Griffin Show, What’s My Line, To Tell the Truth, Password, and the $10,000 Pyramid. CBS let the lease expire in 1981, but bought the building in 1993 to house The Late Show with David Letterman.

Today, the theater continues to host The David Letterman Show. To find out how to get tickets to The Late Show with David Letterman, visit the Late Show’s official Website.

The Ed Sullivan Theater is at 53rd and Broadway.

To find out how to enjoy one of the best restaurants near The Ed Sullivan Theater, visit The Brickyard Gastropub, a four-minute walk away at 52nd St. and 9th Avenue. We’ve recently been featured on NBC Nightly News, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Tokyo TV.

While we love to name drop as much as anyone, we’re even more excited to share these reviews of Brickyard Gastropub on Open Table, because they are real reviews from actual diners, and they are better than the reviews you will find for any comparable restaurant in New York.

Peruse our dinner menu, our bar menu, or our beer menu, and you’ll quickly see why Brickyard is quickly becoming known as one of the best places to eat before The Ed Sullivan Theater, or any other show in the Theater District.
