The Best Bar in NYC to Watch the Kentucky Derby

Friday, April 12th, 2013

John Steinbeck once wrote, “This Kentucky Derby, whatever it is—a race, an emotion, a turbulence, an explosion—is one of the most beautiful and violent and satisfying things I have ever experienced.”

Every first Saturday in May, we celebrate the beautiful and satisfying thing that is the Kentucky Derby For owners, a lifetime of dreams plays out as their horses stampede down the stretch of Churchill Downs for the first time, and then gradually separate themselves until one stands alone, adored with a blanket of roses.

This year, we’ll be hosting our annual, epic Kentucky Derby Party on May 4th.

Also join us for the Kentucky Oaks, on Friday, May 3rd at 5:00 pm.

With nine giant screens, Brickyard is one of the very best bars in New York City to watch the Kentucky Derby.

We will be showing the other races from Churchill Downs all day long, and serving $5 Mint Juleps all day.

We will be offering these Kentucky Derby-themed appetizers and dessert:

  • Mini Hot Brown  – A mini version of the original Kentucky Hot Brown (the name stems from the Brown Hotel in Louisville,KY where it was created) - Hot Turkey, mushroom and sliced tomato on a toasted brioche slider bun topped with thick creamy Parmesan sauce baked to golden brown.
  • Kentucky Burgoo with cornbread - Three meat stew (pork, beef, chicken) with potato, corn, Lima beans and tomato…this traditional Derby stew is thick and little bit spicy…served in bowl with a piece of house made southern style savory cornbread.
  • Derby Pie (Dessert) - Pecan chocolate chip and Kentucky bourbon baked individually in a tart shell drizzled with butterscotch.

We’ll be serving our regular menu, including our bar menu.

There will be a $50 gift certificate awarded to the person wearing the best Kentucky Derby attire, so wear your finest Derby Hat!

Brickyard Welcomes Fans of the Dropkick Murphys

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

The Dropkick Murphys return to Terminal 5 for two shows, tonight and tomorrow, March 12 and 13. As this preview reports, the tour supports the band’s newest album,”Signed and Sealed in Blood.” Self-described as “a rocking & rolling, raging, green-clover machine,” the band has become world famous for its live shows, particularly those held in the week before St. Patrick’s Day.

Now that you have your tickets, your next question must be, “where can I get a great pint of Guinness near Terminal 5?” The only answer to that question is “at Brickyard Gastropub;” we’re just a ten-minute walk from Terminal 5, at 785 Ninth Avenue, just north of 52nd St.

We’re owned by two natives of Ireland, who take their beer, and particularly their Guinness, seriously. A look at our list of 24 craft beers on tap proves how serious we are about our beer. The exceptional reviews of Brickyard Gastropub on Open Table and the solid comments provide third-party proof that Brickyard Gastropub is one of the best Irish bars near Terminal 5. We also have an outstanding dinner menu and a terrific bar menu, making us also one of the best restaurants near Terminal 5.

Those of you from Brooklyn or Queens should be sure to visit our sister bars: Kent Ale House, in North Williamsburg, is the best beer bar in Brooklyn, and Courtyard Ale House, in Sunnyside, is the best beer bar in Queens.

Enjoy the Super Bowl, With Sophistication

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

New York City has plenty of sports bars to watch the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the majority of them serve cheap plastic pitchers of bad beer, 25 cent wings and fist fights over space among the crowds packed 5 deep at the bar.

You’ve evolved from those frat party days, and are looking for something a little more sophisticated.

Watch the Super Bowl at Brickyard Gastropub, the midtown New York sports bar for grown-ups. Here’s why:

We Take Sports Seriously

We take sports seriously, and will have the game turned up loud on our  9 HDTVs, more than enough to satisfy everyone in the bar.

The Beer

Our first-class list of 24 craft beers on draft and five craft bottle beers evolves regularly, particularly as the seasons change; it’s always anchored by beers from Blue Point, Six Point, and Ommegang. As the glowing reviews on Open Table and Yelp convincingly show, sports fans share our taste in beer.

For the duration of the Super Bowl, we are offering a $60.00 premium open bar that includes 20 draft beers, wine, and all liquor except for shots and 18 year scotches.

The Wings and Other Fabulous Bar Food

Our passion for sports and beer doesn’t come at the expense of the taste of our food – we are, first and foremost, a Gastropub.

Ours are anything but ordinary: very meaty, perfectly crispy with just enough spice and served with creamy New York State Bleu Cheese dressing. Take your pick of Buffalo, Thai Chili or Honey BBQ wings.

A flight of craft beer at Brickyard Gastropub

We also offer baskets of regular and Sweet Potato Fries, Truffle Fries, Beer Battered Onion Rings and Homemade Potato Chips, as well as the best sliders in NYC, featuring your choice of Kobe Beef, Veggie or Pulled Pork, and NYC’s best Build Your Own Burger, whether Beef, Veggie, or Bison.

Make sure to get here in time for kickoff at 6:30 PM EST.
